Reinhard Heydrich
Reinhard Tristan Eugen Heydrich, often referred to as The Hangman, was a prominent Nazi leader in Germany. He held the rank of SS Obergruppenführer and General der Polizei, and he was the head of the Reich Main Security Office, as well as serving as Stellvertretender Reichsprotektor for Bohemia and Moravia. In August 1940, he was appointed as the President of Interpol. Heydrich is perhaps best known for presiding over the Wannsee Conference in 1942, where plans were formulated for the mass deportation and extermination of Jews from territories occupied by Germany.
On May 27, 1942, Heydrich was targeted in Prague during Operation Anthropoid, an assassination plot carried out by agents from Slovakia and the Czech Republic who had been trained by the British. He sustained severe injuries in the attack and succumbed to them about a week later. His tenure was marked by brutal enforcement of Nazi policies and significant involvement in the implementation of the Holocaust, making him one of the key figures in the Nazi regime's systematic extermination efforts.
