Nicole Jaffe, born in 1946, is an accomplished American actress and voice actress, renowned for her iconic role as the original voice of Velma Dinkley in the beloved Hanna-Barbera animated series, Scooby-Doo, which aired from 1969 to 1974. Prior to her work on Scooby-Doo, Jaffe showcased her talent in films such as The Trouble with Girls alongside Elvis Presley and the Disney classic, The Love Bug.
Interestingly, Velma was Jaffe's sole voice acting role. In a delightful twist of fate, she shared a similar trait with her character—being myopic and reliant on glasses or contacts for clear vision. During the initial voice recording session for Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, she humorously dropped her glasses and exclaimed, “my glasses! I can’t see without them," inadvertently creating a memorable catchphrase that became synonymous with Velma.
After marrying Brad David in 1973, Jaffe stepped away from the acting scene and transitioned into a career as an agent for the prestigious William Morris Agency. However, she made a brief return to the Scooby-Doo franchise three decades later, lending her voice once again in the direct-to-video films Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire and Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico in 2003.
