David Nelson
David Oswald Nelson (October 24, 1936 – January 11, 2011) was a prominent American actor known for his work in television and film. Born to the famed entertainment duo Harriet Hilliard Nelson and Ozzie Nelson, he was the older brother of musician Ricky Nelson.
Nelson's journey in acting began in 1949 when he and Ricky made guest appearances as themselves in their parents’ radio series, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, which aired until 1954. He transitioned to film with his debut in the 1952 movie Here Come the Nelsons. Later that same year, he took on a central role in the television adaptation of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, which ran until 1966. In the early 1960s, he also ventured into directing, helming approximately a dozen episodes of the beloved series.
Throughout the 1970s and into the 1990s, Nelson appeared in various notable projects, including Smash-Up on Interstate 5, Up In Smoke, The Love Boat, High School U.S.A., and A Family for Joe. His final film role was in John Waters’ cult classic Cry-Baby in 1990.
David Nelson passed away on January 11, 2011, in Century City, California, after battling complications from colon cancer, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with the golden age of American television.
