Chali 2na
Charles Stewart, widely recognized by his stage name Chali 2na, was born on June 26, 1971. He is an influential American rapper celebrated for his deep baritone voice and rapid-fire lyrical delivery. Chali 2na is most notable for his contributions to the acclaimed hip-hop groups Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli.
Raised in South Central Los Angeles, Chali 2na was heavily influenced by his grandmother, a devout Muslim, who instilled in him the values of the Islamic faith. His musical journey began in 1993 when he co-founded Jurassic 5 alongside childhood friend Cut Chemist and other talented artists. The group gained popularity for their engaging live performances, particularly at the Good Life Café, where they often showcased their skills at open mic nights. Their collaboration with another local group, the Rebels of Rhythm, culminated in the release of the 1995 single "Unified Rebelution."
In 2006, Cut Chemist departed from Jurassic 5 to pursue a solo career, leading to the group's eventual disbandment in 2007. Chali 2na also played a significant role in the activist band Ozomatli, contributing to their unique blend of salsa, funk, reggae, and soul music. Although he is no longer an official member, he continues to collaborate with the group and remains close to its members. Chali 2na's dynamic artistry and unwavering passion for music have made him a prominent figure in the hip-hop and music communities.
