Snuff Garrett, born Tommy Garrett, was a prominent American record producer renowned for his influential contributions to the music industry during the 1960s and 1970s. His journey in music began at just seventeen when he worked as a disc jockey in Lubbock, Texas, where he crossed paths with the legendary Buddy Holly.
In 1959, at the young age of 19, Garrett transitioned to Hollywood as a staff producer for Liberty Records, initially starting in the promotions department. Despite not being a musician himself, he possessed an exceptional talent for identifying potential hits, which led him to produce a series of successful records. His keen ear and intuition about what resonated with audiences helped shape the sound of the era.
Garrett eventually rose to the position of head of A&R at Liberty Records, where he played a pivotal role in the careers of numerous artists until he departed the label in 1966.
