Margot Leicester was born in September 1949 and spent her formative years in Middleton, Lancashire. Her passion for acting blossomed during her time at Bury Grammar School, where school trips to renowned venues like Stratford-upon-Avon, the Manchester Exchange, and the Octagon Theatre in Bolton sparked her enthusiasm for the stage. After completing her education, she pursued a degree in English at the University of Leicester. Upon graduating, Margot embarked on a career in repertory theatre, performing in various productions across the UK.

In 1972, while performing at the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster, she met the esteemed director David Thacker. The couple married two years later and went on to have four children. Throughout their marriage, they have collaborated on numerous projects, with Margot earning an Olivier Award nomination in 1994 for their joint effort on the play "Breaking Glass" at the National Theatre. In 2008, David took on the role of artistic director at the Octagon Theatre, where Margot contributed to critically acclaimed productions such as "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," "The Glass Menagerie," and "Long Day's Journey Into Night." Additionally, Margot is actively involved as a director with the Haringey Shed Company, a London-based theatre organization dedicated to inspiring teenagers to explore the world of acting.
