Maggie Morgan

Maggie Morgan is a prominent Egyptian filmmaker, writer, and educator, renowned for her contributions to cinema that reflect the rich tapestry of Arab culture. Her debut feature film, *Asham*, made a significant impact upon its release in Egyptian theaters in June 2013, following an extensive festival circuit. The film garnered critical acclaim, winning awards for Best Director and Best Editor at the Malmo Arab Film Festival in 2013, as well as receiving a Special Jury Mention at the Festival International des Films D'Orient in Geneva.

Morgan began her filmmaking journey with her first documentary, *The Picture*, in 2002, which aired on various Arab television networks. In 2006, she expanded her repertoire by writing and directing the medium-length fiction *Minhom Feehom: From Within – Her Stories*, released in March 2007. Her 2017 projects included two short films, *February 14* and *A Live Match on Skype*, along with the completion of a documentary titled *Draz*, focusing on the esteemed Azhar scholar Mohamed Abdalla Draz.

In 2018, she directed the impactful social media campaign "Regala Sanad," advocating for women's rights, which attracted over 1.8 million views on Facebook. Her creative documentary *From Meir, To Meir* premiered at the Aswan International Women's Film Festival in 2021, earning accolades. Based in Cairo, Morgan has been an adjunct professor at the American University in Cairo since 2006, where she teaches film. Currently, she is developing her second feature film, *Leila and I*, having won two awards for film development at the 2019 Cairo Film Connection.
