Uli Hanisch
Uli Hanisch, born in 1967 in Nuremberg, is a distinguished production designer whose career spans over three decades in the film industry. After studying graphic arts in Düsseldorf, Hanisch began his creative journey in 1989, collaborating with avant-garde filmmaker Christoph Schlingensief on experimental projects, including the film *The German Chainsaw Massacre*. His artistic vision further extended to designing for renowned German comedian Helge Schneider.
Hanisch's portfolio includes significant contributions to European cinema, working on films by acclaimed directors such as Enki Bilal and Peter Greenaway. He has collaborated with prominent German filmmakers like Leander Haußmann, Oliver Hirschbiegel, and Sönke Wortmann, showcasing his versatility across various genres.
A notable partnership formed in 1996 with director Tom Tykwer, leading to several successful projects. Hanisch's work on *The Perfume: The Story of a Murderer* earned him prestigious accolades, including the Bavarian Film Award and the German Film Award in 2007 for best production design. His credits also include *The International* and the medieval horror film *Season of the Witch*.
In 2011, he excelled in designing three segments of the ambitious film *Cloud Atlas*, which garnered him a German Film Award and a nomination from the Art Directors Guild in Los Angeles. His recent projects include contributing to the Netflix series *Sense8* and the acclaimed German TV series *Babylon Berlin*.
Since 2001, Hanisch has been an educator in film design and has held a professorship at the International Film School in Cologne since 2018. He currently resides in Berlin.
