Noel Ferrier AM (20 December 1930 – 16 October 1997) was a prominent figure in the Australian entertainment landscape, known for his work as a television host, actor, raconteur, and theatre producer. Born in Melbourne, Ferrier's theatrical journey spanned over five decades, beginning with his involvement in the first Australian professional repertory company, the Union Theatre Repertory Company. He is particularly remembered for originating the role of 'Roo' in the landmark production of *Summer of the Seventeenth Doll* at the University of Melbourne.
Ferrier gained widespread recognition in the television scene, particularly as the host of *In Melbourne Tonight* from 1963 to 1965. His version of the show, which was notably distinct from Graham Kennedy's, attracted a dedicated audience and won the Logie Award for Most Popular Program in Victoria in 1964. Following this success, the show was broadcast in Sydney, albeit in the early hours after wrestling events.
In addition to his television work, Ferrier co-hosted a morning radio program called *The Noel and Mary Show* on 3UZ, which featured the comedic serial "The House on the Hill." His versatility as an actor was evident in his appearances in various television series, including *Homicide*, *Division 4*, and *Matlock Police*, as well as films like *Alvin Purple* and *The Year of Living Dangerously*. In 1971, he was awarded Best Australian Comedy for his show *Australia A-Z*.
