Eugene Jackson
Eugene Jackson, known for his role as Pineapple, the older brother of Farina, made a significant mark in the world of entertainment through his appearances in six of Hal Roach's beloved "Our Gang" shorts, including titles like "The Mysterious Mystery," "The Big Town," "Circus Fever," "Dog Days," "The Love Bug," and "Shootin Injuns." In addition to his film career, he showcased his talents in the vaudeville scene, where he was celebrated as "Hollywood's most famous colored kid star." Although many of his film roles were minor and often went uncredited, Jackson's presence was memorable.
He also made notable television appearances as Uncle Lou in the acclaimed series "Julia" alongside Diahann Carroll, and as a friend of Redd Foxx on the classic sitcom "Sanford and Son." In his later years, Jackson transitioned into teaching dance, establishing studios in Compton and Pasadena, where he imparted his knowledge to aspiring performers. He played a role in training several actors for the 1959 adaptation of "Porgy and Bess." His contributions to the dance community were recognized in a retrospective featured at the 1993 Los Angeles Festival, highlighting his lasting influence on the arts.
