Ferrin's passion for the performing arts blossomed during her formative years at Brookwood High School, where she took center stage in numerous plays and participated in the choir. She further honed her craft at the College of Charleston and the North Carolina School of the Arts, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama.

Her career took off with her portrayal of Esther in the Hallmark Hall of Fame film, The Locket, and a notable guest appearance in the 2002 season finale of Dawson's Creek. However, Ferrin is best known for her compelling role as Jennifer Munson Kasnoff Donovan on the iconic soap opera As the World Turns, where she captivated audiences from 2003 to 2006.

In addition to her soap opera success, Ferrin showcased her theatrical talents in the U.S. premieres of Patrick Barlow's adaptation of The 39 Steps in both Boston and New York City. She also appeared as Detective Sam Tyler's mother in the American adaptation of Life on Mars. Her later work includes playing Dana Faraday in NBC’s superhero series The Cape and recurring roles on Royal Pains and The Following. Notably, she portrayed Rebecca Mason in the sci-fi drama Falling Skies and was a series regular in the third season of AMC's Hell on Wheels, which premiered on August 10, 2013.
