Hideki Matsui (松井 秀喜, Matsui Hideki), born on June 12, 1974, is a celebrated former professional baseball outfielder and designated hitter hailing from Japan, widely recognized by his moniker "Godzilla." His illustrious career spanned both Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and Major League Baseball (MLB), where he showcased his exceptional talents as a left-handed batter and right-handed thrower.

Matsui began his professional journey with the Yomiuri Giants in NPB, where he played for a decade, securing his status as one of the league's elite. He earned nine All-Star selections, claimed three Japan Series titles, and was honored as the Central League Most Valuable Player (MVP) three times. In 2003, he made the leap to MLB, joining the New York Yankees for seven seasons. With the Yankees, Matsui was named an All-Star twice and played a pivotal role in their 2009 World Series victory, where he was awarded the World Series MVP for his outstanding performance.

Following his time with the Yankees, Matsui had brief tenures with the Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics, and Tampa Bay Rays before signing a one-day minor league contract with the Yankees on July 28, 2013, to retire officially with the team. Over his impressive 20-year career, Matsui amassed a total of 507 home runs—332 in Japan and 175 in the United States. His remarkable contributions to the sport were recognized in 2018 when he was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.
