Kirk Johnson

Kirk Johnson is a multifaceted talent known for his roles as a drummer, producer, performer, and dancer in the entertainment industry. Since joining Paisley Park Studios in 1990, he has played a pivotal role in shaping Prince's artistic vision throughout the 1990s.

Initially starting his career as a dancer and choreographer for the New Power Generation (NPG), Kirk transitioned to production in 1993. During this period, he founded Kitchen Records, a platform dedicated to recording his own music as well as works from artists like Walter Chancellor, Jr. and Fonky Bald Heads.

In 1996, Kirk assumed the position of drummer for Prince, contributing his rhythm skills to several iconic albums, including *Diamonds and Pearls* (percussion), *The Gold Experience* (programming), *Symbol*, *Chaos & Disorder*, *Emancipation* (drums and production), *Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic*, and *The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale*.

Beyond his work with Prince, Johnson has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, co-writing and producing for notable names such as Chaka Khan, Larry Graham, Boyz II Men, Jevetta Steele, El DeBarge, Monie Love, Tevin Campbell, Rosie Gaines, Mavis Staples, Nona Gaye, The Donz, and Najee. His extensive career showcases his versatility and significant contributions to the music industry.
