Sandy Ratcliff
Sandy Ratcliff, born on October 2, 1950, in London, England, began her career in the spotlight as a model, earning the title of “The Face of the 70s” from renowned photographer Lord Snowden. Transitioning to acting, she gained prominence through her performance in Ken Loach's 1971 film *Family Life* and later featured in the 1979 film *Radio On*. However, she is perhaps most recognized for her role as Sue Osman in the iconic BBC soap opera *EastEnders*, where she debuted in the show's very first episode in 1985. Ratcliff portrayed the beloved café owner until 1989, when her departure was marked by her struggle with heroin addiction.
Following her time on *EastEnders*, Ratcliff faced a series of personal challenges, including health issues and a battle with cancer. Her life drew media attention when she provided a false alibi for her boyfriend, Michael Shorey, who was convicted of murdering two women. In an effort to turn her life around, Ratcliff retrained as a counselor, although she ultimately retired by 2010. In her later years, she resided in sheltered accommodation, where she passed away on April 7, 2019, at the age of 70. Despite her turbulent journey, Ratcliff remains a notable figure in British television history.
