J. Miles Dale, born in 1961, is a distinguished Canadian producer and director renowned in the film and television industry. He gained significant recognition for his role as a producer on the acclaimed film The Shape of Water, which secured the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 90th Academy Awards. Dale has established a strong collaborative relationship with director Guillermo del Toro and has also partnered creatively with Netflix.

Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Dale is the son of British-born Canadian jazz musician Jimmy Dale. He spent his early education at Bayview Glen School from 1965 to 1968. In 1968, the family relocated to Hollywood, where his father served as a music director for popular television shows, including The Smothers Brothers Show, The Andy Williams Show, and The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. The Dales returned to Toronto in the mid-1970s, and Miles completed his education at Jarvis Collegiate Institute. He briefly attended the University of Toronto before transferring to the University of British Columbia, ultimately leaving his studies to pursue a career in the film industry. Dale's impressive body of work and collaborations continue to shape the landscape of contemporary cinema.
