Angie Stone
Angie Stone, whose birth name is Angela Laverne Brown, was born on December 18, 1961, and is a notable American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Throughout her career, she has garnered three Grammy nominations and has won two Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. In recognition of her contributions to music, she was honored with the Soul Music Icon Award at the Black Music Honors in 2021.
Angie first gained prominence in the late 1970s as a member of the hip hop group The Sequence. In the early 1990s, she joined the R&B group Vertical Hold. Her solo career took off with her debut album, Black Diamond, released in 1999 under Arista Records, which achieved gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America and featured the hit single "No More Rain (In This Cloud)."
After moving to J Records, she released her sophomore album, Mahogany Soul, in 2001, which included the popular track "Wish I Didn't Miss You." This was followed by her albums Stone Love in 2004 and The Art of Love & War in 2007, with the latter reaching number one on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
In the 2000s, Angie also ventured into acting, making her film debut in the 2002 comedy The Hot Chick and her stage debut in 2003 as Big Mama Morton in the Broadway musical Chicago. She has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including VH1's Celebrity Fit Club, TV One's R&B Divas, and movies like The Fighting Temptations (2003), Pastor Brown (2009), and School Gyrls (2010).
