Haruo Nakajima
Haruo Nakajima (Japanese: 中島 春雄, Hepburn: Nakajima Haruo; January 1, 1929 – August 7, 2017) was a celebrated Japanese actor and stunt performer, renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to the art of suit acting. He is most famously recognized for his portrayal of Godzilla, having donned the iconic suit in 12 consecutive films, beginning with the original "Godzilla" in 1954 and concluding with "Godzilla vs. Gigan" in 1972. Nakajima's work helped define the character of Godzilla, making it a cultural icon in Japan and around the world.
In addition to his legendary role as the King of Monsters, Nakajima showcased his versatility by portraying a variety of other kaiju in Toho's beloved tokusatsu films, including notable appearances as Rodan, Mothra, and in "The War of the Gargantuas." His talents extended beyond the monster genre, as he also appeared in significant supporting roles in classic films by Akira Kurosawa, including "Seven Samurai," "Yojimbo," and "Stray Dog."
