Geronimo Pratt

Elmer "Geronimo" Pratt, also recognized as Geronimo Ji-Jaga, was a prominent military veteran and influential leader within the Black Panther Party during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Hailing from Louisiana, Pratt distinguished himself by serving two combat tours in Vietnam, earning numerous honors for his bravery and dedication.

After returning from military service, Pratt became deeply involved in civil rights activism, joining the Black Panther Party where he held a significant leadership role. He was known for his commitment to empowering the African American community and advocating for social justice. His efforts included organizing community programs focused on education, health, and self-defense.

Tragically, Pratt's life took a dramatic turn when he was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1972, a case that drew national attention and highlighted issues of racial injustice within the legal system. He spent nearly 27 years in prison before his conviction was overturned in 1997, largely due to prosecutorial misconduct and the suppression of evidence.
