Lhakpa Sherpa
Lhakpa Sherpa, also known as Lakpa, is a renowned mountaineer from Nepal. She has made history by summiting Mount Everest ten times, earning the distinction of being the woman with the most ascents of the world's highest peak. In 2000, she became the first Nepalese woman to successfully reach and descend from Everest, achieving this remarkable feat as part of the Nepalese Women's Millennium Expedition.
Born into a large family of 11 in the Makalu region of Nepal, Lhakpa's journey in mountaineering began with a significant climb in 2000. By 2003, she had already set a women's world record by climbing Everest three times, summiting alongside her brother Ming Kipa and sister Mingma Gelu, who became the youngest climber to reach the summit at just 15 years old. The Sherpa siblings made headlines, earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Lhakpa's personal life includes raising two daughters and a son, having been married to George Dijmarescu, a Romanian-American mountaineer, for 12 years. Their partnership saw them scale Everest together five times. In 2016, Lhakpa reached her seventh summit, and in 2018, she further solidified her record by climbing Everest for the ninth time.
Now residing in the United States, Lhakpa works at 7-Eleven while nurturing her passion for mountaineering. Her extraordinary achievements continue to inspire climbers worldwide, reflecting her deep connection to the mountains.
