Gabriel Beristain

Luis Gabriel Beristáin, ASC, BSC, AMC, is a distinguished Mexican cinematographer, producer, and television director celebrated for his contributions to a variety of prominent films and television series. Notable works in his filmography include *The Distinguished Gentleman*, *The Spanish Prisoner*, *Blade II*, and *Street Kings*, as well as several projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as the *Agent Carter* TV series.

Born in Mexico City, Beristain is the son of actor Luis Beristáin. His passion for filmmaking ignited during the independent film movement in Mexico during the 1970s. He initially pursued engineering at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, but soon transitioned into film studies while producing training materials for the health sector. His early career involved the production of documentaries before establishing a commercial production company. In 1977, he moved to Italy and was later encouraged by director Sergio Leone to study at the National Film and Television School in the UK, where he honed his skills under the tutelage of esteemed cinematographers Oswald Morris and Billy Williams.

Beristain's career took off with his acclaimed work on the 1983 horror film *Bloody Flesh*, which garnered him a Best Cinematography Award at the Bogotá Film Festival. He received further recognition with a Special Silver Bear Award for *Caravaggio* at the Berlin International Film Festival. His Hollywood journey began with a recommendation from cinematographer Allen Daviau, leading to his involvement with Marvel Studios on films like *Iron Man* and *Black Widow*.

A member of both the British Society of Cinematographers and the American Society of Cinematographers, Beristain has made significant strides in the industry. Influenced by iconic cinematographers such as Gregg Toland and Roger Deakins, he continues to inspire others with his unique vision and talent.
