Barnes, originally named Nelson Barry Mackintosh Barnes, was a prominent English actor born on December 27, 1906, in London, where he also spent his final days, passing away on January 12, 1965. The son of Horatio Nelson Barnes and Anne Mackintosh Barnes, he made a significant mark in both film and theater. His cinematic journey spanned from 1936 to 1947, during which he appeared in sixteen films. Notably, he portrayed the charismatic Sir Percy Blakeney in the 1937 classic, *Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel*, which remains one of his most memorable roles.
Unfortunately, his promising film career was abruptly halted in 1947 due to a mysterious illness that he acquired during World War II.
