Susan Harrison

Susan Harrison, born on August 26, 1938, in Leesburg, Florida, is a notable American actress recognized for her compelling performances in both film and theater. She gained acclaim for her role in the 1957 film noir classic, *Sweet Smell of Success*, where she portrayed the sister of Burt Lancaster's character, showcasing her talent in a gripping narrative. Additionally, she is remembered for her performance in the iconic *Twilight Zone* episode titled "Five Characters in Search of an Exit."

Harrison's foundational training in the arts began at the High School of Performing Arts in New York City, where she took on significant roles such as Frankie in Carson McCullers' *Member of the Wedding* and Eliza Doolittle in Shaw's *Pygmalion*. She furthered her studies at Boston University under the guidance of Peter Kass, who cast her as Abigail in Arthur Miller's *The Crucible*. Her career took off with her television debut in the 1956 live drama *Can You Coffeepot on Skates?*, followed by appearances in *Matinee Theatre* and *Alfred Hitchcock Presents*.

In October 1957, she debuted on Broadway at the Bijou Theater in William Saroyan's *The Cave Dwellers*, earning positive reviews. The following year, she featured in the *Playhouse 90* production of *In Lonely Expectation*, catching the eye of Rod Serling. Harrison's later work included a memorable role in *Bonanza* and the film *Key Witness* alongside Jeffrey Hunter and Dennis Hopper.

After stepping away from the spotlight in 1963 to focus on family, she returned intermittently to the stage in the 1990s. In her personal life, she is the mother of Darva Conger, known for the reality show *Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?*, and resides in Los Angeles, California.
