Zhang Mei'e

Zhang Mei'e, born in a rural area of Hengdian, initially led a humble life working as a farmer and a factory painter, where she also cultivated silkworm cocoons. In 1996, Hengdian began its transformation into a prominent film hub in China, attracting numerous film crews from across the nation. Inspired by this burgeoning industry, Zhang made the pivotal decision to leave her farming duties behind and seek employment at a movie studio located 100 kilometers from her home.

With the assistance of a fellow villager, she secured a position repairing and renovating outdated buildings at the Hengdian Film and Television Base. Zhang's prior experience as a painter made her adept at handling the tasks involved in this role. Despite her late start in the film industry, at the age of 60, she made her acting debut in Stephen Chow's acclaimed film "Journey to the West."

Zhang Mei'e's journey from rural life to the silver screen is a testament to her resilience and determination. Her accomplishments reflect not only her talent but also the transformative power of the film industry in China. Today, she is celebrated not only for her late-blooming acting career but also as an inspiration for those pursuing their dreams regardless of age.
