Dionysis Papagiannopoulos (Greek: Διονύσης Παπαγιαννόπουλος; 12 July 1912 – 13 April 1984) was a distinguished Greek actor renowned for his versatile performances in theater, film, and television. Born in Diakopto, Achaea, he honed his craft at the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece (Ethniko Theatro) in Athens, making his stage debut in 1938 as the Knight in William Shakespeare's *King Lear*. Papagiannopoulos gained acclaim for his portrayal of the Grave Digger in *Hamlet* and General Solon Karaleon in Dimitris Psathas' *Fonazei o Kleftis*.
Throughout his prolific career, he appeared in over 120 films, demonstrating his talent in both leading and supporting roles. Notably, his performance in *O Kyr Giorgis Ekpaidevetai* (1977) marked a significant moment in Greek cinema as it was the final production from Finos Film, signaling the end of a cinematic era. Additionally, his portrayal of Mr. Giorgis in the popular television series *Louna Park* further solidified his status as a beloved figure in Greek entertainment.
Papagiannopoulos also made a lasting impact in theater, particularly with his role in Iakovos Kambanelis' *To Megalo mas Tsirko*, where he embodied historical figures like Theodoros Kolokotronis and Eleftherios Venizelos. His final film appearance in Theo Angelopoulos' *Voyage to Cythera* was well-received. Tragically, he passed away at the age of 71 due to a stroke in his Alexandras Avenue apartment. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, a statue was erected in his honor in his hometown, despite some political controversies during his lifetime.
