Ed McMahon
Edward Peter "Ed" McMahon, Jr. (March 6, 1923 – June 23, 2009) was a celebrated American entertainer known for his multifaceted career as a comedian, game show host, and television announcer. McMahon gained widespread recognition for his role as the announcer and sidekick on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson," where he delighted audiences from 1962 to 1992, creating a legendary partnership with Carson.
Beyond his work on "The Tonight Show," McMahon hosted the original version of "Star Search," a talent competition that aired from 1983 to 1995, showcasing emerging artists and performers. Additionally, he co-hosted "TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes" alongside Dick Clark from 1982 to 1986, further solidifying his presence in the entertainment industry.
McMahon was also known for his engaging personality in commercials, most notably for Budweiser, and he participated in the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon for many years. His charisma extended to live events as he anchored NBC’s coverage of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade during the 1970s and 1980s.
In film, McMahon made appearances in several movies, including "The Incident," "Fun With Dick and Jane," and "Full Moon High," as well as a cameo in the film adaptation of "Bewitched."
