Tsarina Alexandra
Alexandra Feodorovna, born Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine on June 6, 1872, was the final Empress of Russia, marrying Emperor Nicholas II on November 26, 1894. Her reign as Tsarina lasted until Nicholas's forced abdication on March 15, 1917. As the beloved granddaughter of Queen Victoria, Alexandra was notably one of the prominent royal figures afflicted with hemophilia, a hereditary condition that also affected her son, Alexei Nikolaevich, the Tsarevich of Russia.
Alexandra's influence over her husband was significant, particularly her staunch support of autocratic governance, which contributed to growing discontent among the Russian populace. Additionally, her close ties to the controversial mystic Grigori Rasputin further tarnished her reputation and that of the Romanov dynasty during its waning days.
Tragically, Alexandra and her family met a grim fate in 1918 when they were executed by Bolshevik forces amidst the upheaval of the Russian Revolution. Her legacy endured, and in the year 2000, she was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church, receiving the title Saint Alexandra the Passion Bearer. Her life story reflects the tumultuous era of the Russian Empire and the profound challenges faced by the last royal family of Russia.
