Jahar Ganguly

Jahar Ganguly (October 1904 – 1969) was a prominent Indian actor and theater figure, renowned for his contributions to both Bengali and Hindi cinema. Born in the undivided 24 Parganas District of British India, Ganguly made a significant impact on the Indian film industry during the 1940s and 1950s, often appearing in supporting roles that provided a comedic counterbalance to the more serious leads.

One of the highlights of Ganguly's career came in 1943 when he was honored with the Best Actor award at the 6th Annual Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards for his remarkable performance in the film *Bandi*. His breakthrough role emerged in *Dena Paona*, directed by Premankur Atorthy, which catapulted him into the limelight.

Additionally, Ganguly collaborated with the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray in notable works such as *Parash Pathar* and *Chiriyakhana*, showcasing his versatility and depth as an actor. Beyond his film career, he was also an accomplished stage performer, gracing the theater scene until 1960.
