Gloria Diaz
Gloria María Aspillera Díaz, born on March 10, 1951, in Aringay, La Union, is a celebrated Filipino actress and the first-ever Miss Universe titleholder from the Philippines, having won the prestigious crown in 1969 in Miami Beach, Florida. As a member of the prominent Díaz family, which includes twelve siblings (ten sisters and two brothers), she has made a significant impact both on and off the screen.
Díaz's journey to the Miss Universe pageant began when she was encouraged by a mentor who recognized her potential. At just 18 years old, she triumphed over a competitive field, particularly impressing judges with her response to a final question regarding the welcoming of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, and Michael Collins upon their return from the moon. Her crowning moment took place at the International American-owned pageant, with the iconic Statue of Liberty as a backdrop.
Beyond her pageant success, Díaz has established herself as a prominent figure in Philippine cinema and television. Her talent was recognized when she received the esteemed FAMAS Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2005 FAMAS Best Picture, "Nasaan Ka Man."
Díaz pursued her education at St. Scholastica's College in Manila. She is married to businessman Gabriel "Bong" Daza and is the proud mother of two daughters, Isabelle and Ava, balancing her family life with a vibrant career in the entertainment industry.
