Lasco Atkins

2 titles Acting Feb 20, 1980 Hong Kong, China

Lasco Atkins was born in Hong Kong in 1980 and developed a passion for cinema at a young age, particularly drawn to action films featuring icons like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Upon enrolling in film school, he discovered a newfound appreciation for classic films, including black-and-white masterpieces and 1970s cinema. This transformative experience led him to revisit films like Blade Runner, which he began to see not as dull relics but as stunning visual works of art.

As he created skits and skateboarding videos with friends, he honed his skills further at the Surrey Institute in Farnham, where he first experimented with video editing, focusing on over-the-top productions. His time at the London Film School introduced him to shooting on film stock and using Steenbeck editing, deepening his understanding of the filmmaking process. Initially aspiring to be a director, he ultimately graduated as a cinematographer.

After leaving film school, he worked as a camera assistant and focus puller, which ignited his interest in lighting—a crucial aspect for aspiring directors of photography. While he occasionally directs and takes on acting roles in larger productions, his enthusiasm for filmmaking remains paramount, regardless of his position on set. In 2013, he also ventured into music, releasing two of his own rap music videos under the name Lasco Tobasco.
