Kallie Knoetze

1 title Acting Apr 23, 1953 Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa

Kallie Knoetze is a notable figure in the boxing world, particularly known for his competitive spirit during the late 1970s. Before turning professional, he faced off against his fellow South African and future world champion Gerrie Coetzee six times, with both fighters claiming three victories each.

Knoetze embarked on his professional career in 1976, making an explosive start with six consecutive victories by knockout. However, his initial momentum was interrupted in his seventh fight when he was disqualified against Reinaldo Raul Gorosito. In his eighth match, he faced Coetzee again and lost a ten-round decision.

From late 1976 through 1979, Knoetze enjoyed an impressive eleven-fight winning streak, notable for avenging his earlier defeat to Gorosito by securing a ten-round decision. Over this period, he also achieved significant wins by knocking out US Olympian Duane Bobick and Richard Dunn, who had previously fought Muhammad Ali.

By 1979, Knoetze was ranked as the world’s third-best heavyweight and competed in an elimination match for the vacant WBA heavyweight title, where he faced John Tate but was defeated by knockout in the eighth round. Following this, he continued to box, adding seven more fights to his record before retiring in 1981 after a loss to Robbie Williams.

Beyond his boxing career, Knoetze also ventured into acting, appearing in four films between 1979 and 1991, most notably portraying Rosco Dunn, a corrupt ex-boxer turned military sergeant, in the popular 1982 film Bomber.
