Johannes "Joe" Taslim, born on June 23, 1981, in Palembang, South Sumatra, is a prominent Indonesian actor and martial artist of Chinese heritage. His journey in martial arts began in his youth, where he trained in various disciplines including wushu, taekwondo, pencak silat, and ultimately judo. Taslim represented Indonesia on the national judo team from 1997 until 2009, earning significant accolades such as a gold medal at the 2008 National Sports Week and a silver medal at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games.

Taslim's transition from sports to acting marked a turning point in his career, with his breakout performance as Sergeant Jaka in the acclaimed film The Raid (2011).
