Patrick Brantseg

1 title Acting Oct 10, 1967

Patrick Brantseg is a notable figure in the realm of television, best known for his role as the Art Director and performer of the character Gypsy on the cult classic series "Mystery Science Theater 3000." He joined the show during its eighth season, taking over the character from producer Jim Mallon in the episode "Agent for H.A.R.M." Brantseg's journey began at Best Brains, Inc. in 1992, where he initially served as an intern before being brought on to the art department under Jef Maynard's guidance. By 1993, after Michael J. Nelson became the host, he was appointed as a "utility infielder," a versatile role that involved a variety of tasks around the BBI offices.

Originally from Sisseton, South Dakota, Brantseg pursued his passion for art at the University of Minnesota, where he excelled in his art courses but struggled in others, leading to his departure after two years. Reflecting on his time there, he remarked on the challenges he faced with faculty. Following this, he toured the Midwest as a drummer for the punk band "Black Spot," recording an album before shifting focus to television production.

Brantseg draws inspiration from a diverse range of influences, including comedy legends Laurel and Hardy, music icon David Bowie, country star Buck Owens, and the artistic genius of Vincent van Gogh, along with his own parents, who have greatly shaped his creative journey.
