She pursued her passion for performance at the University of Nevada, earning a double degree in theater and communications broadcasting. Initially, she sought a conventional acting career under the name Kim McKamy, featuring in low-budget horror films such as *Dreamaniac* (1986) and *Lunch Meat* (1987). Despite her reluctance to engage in nude scenes early on, by 1989, Ashlyn transitioned to adult films, posing for nude pictorials in magazines like *Penthouse*.
Her career took a significant turn in September 1990 when she starred in *The Last Resort*, marking the beginning of her prolific career in the adult film industry, where she would appear in approximately 100 X-rated films over the next decade. Alongside her adult film success, Ashlyn maintained a presence in mainstream cinema, acting in *Fatal Instinct* (1992) and serving as a body double for Sharon Stone in *Basic Instinct* (1992) and Demi Moore in *Indecent Proposal* (1993).
