Joel Parkinson, born on April 10, 1981, is a distinguished Australian surfer renowned for his impressive career in the World Surf League (WSL). With a remarkable tenure spanning twelve years on the ASP World Championship Tour, Parkinson solidified his legacy by clinching eleven prestigious ASP World Title Events alongside nine additional ASP tour victories. His talent and perseverance were evident as he secured the runner-up position in the ASP World Title race four times.

The pinnacle of Parkinson’s career came on December 14, 2012, when he triumphed at the ASP World Championship Tour Surfing Title held at the iconic Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii. This decisive win occurred during the final event of the 2012 ASP World Tour, the Billabong Pipeline Masters, where he faced off against the legendary Kelly Slater, an eleven-time world champion. In a thrilling contest, Parkinson seized his first World Title after Slater was defeated in the semifinals by Queensland's Josh Kerr. Parkinson then showcased his skills by overcoming Kerr in the finals, marking his seventh top-five finish of that year and securing his first event title in 2012.
