1 title Acting Apr 26, 1916 Died: Apr 07, 1937 Portland, Oregon, USA

Helen Burgess, a promising young actress, was born on April 26, 1916, in Portland, Oregon. With her charming, sweet-faced demeanor, she quickly caught the attention of Hollywood, making her debut in the illustrious film The Plainsman (1936), directed by the legendary Cecil B. DeMille. In this grand bio-western, she played Louisa Frederici Cody, the bride of the famed Wild West showman Buffalo Bill Cody, portrayed by James Ellison. The film starred iconic actors Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur, further solidifying its status.

Following her debut, Burgess appeared in a handful of "B" movies, showcasing her talent alongside notable stars. She co-starred with George Bancroft in the drama A Doctor's Diary (1937) and took on a significant role in King of Gamblers (1937) alongside Claire Trevor.

Tragically, while working on her fourth film, Night of Mystery (1937), Helen became ill after catching a chill, which escalated into lobar pneumonia. Sadly, she passed away on April 7, 1937, in Beverly Hills, just weeks shy of her 21st birthday. Despite her brief career, Burgess left an indelible mark through her work, particularly in The Plainsman, which remains her most recognized film, a testament to her talent and potential that would never fully unfold.
