Avtandil Makharadze

Avtandil Makharadze (Georgian: ავთანდილ მახარაძე), born on July 16, 1943, in Batumi, is a distinguished Georgian actor whose career has spanned several decades. He began his artistic journey in the 1970s while studying at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University, where he first showcased his talent in student performances. His portrayal of Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice" garnered significant acclaim, establishing him as a prominent figure in the theatrical community.

Makharadze was a key member of the Shota Rustaveli Theatre, where he performed more than 50 roles until 1991, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to the craft. His remarkable talent also shone through at the Moscow Art Theatre (MHAT), where he achieved notable success. In 1983, he took on a leading role in "Collapse" (Jaqo's Dispossessed), a performance that resonated deeply with audiences. This role was significant as it had previously been featured in a controversial television series on Georgian Television, marking a pivotal moment in Soviet Georgia's theatrical landscape.
