Wende Wagner
Wende Wagner was born to a U.S. Navy commander, John H. Wagner, and a champion skier, Rudy Arnold Wagner, which provided her with a diverse upbringing. Growing up on Coronado Island, California, she moved frequently due to her father's naval career. While living in Coronado, a young Wende caught the eye of filmmaker Billy Wilder while swimming, who offered her a screen test for the film *Some Like It Hot*. However, her parents insisted she complete high school before pursuing her acting career. After graduating from Coronado High School, she met Wilder again but declined a role in *The Apartment*.
Wagner embarked on a successful career as a fashion model and made her television debut in 1959 on *Wagon Train*. She became known for her work as an underwater stunt double in series like *Sea Hunt* and *The Aquanauts*, even doubling for Joanne Dru in the 1960 film *September Storm*. Her notable appearances included a stint on *What's My Line* in December 1960, where she was introduced as a stunt skindiver.
Following her marriage to underwater expert Courtney Brown and the birth of her daughter Tiffany, Wagner signed with 20th Century Fox, earning credits in films such as *Rio Conchos* (1964), *Rosemary's Baby* (1968), and *Guns of the Magnificent Seven* (1969). She also made guest appearances on shows like *Perry Mason*, *Flipper*, and *The Green Hornet*, where she had a recurring role as Lenore "Casey" Case.
Despite experiencing a devastating loss when her Malibu home burned down, Wagner remained active in her community, contributing to the Malibu Historical Society. She also shared a close friendship with actress Sharon Tate during their time living together.
