Katie Porter
Katherine Moore Porter, born on January 3, 1974, is a prominent American politician, attorney, and law professor, currently serving as the U.S. representative for California's 47th congressional district since 2023. Before this, she represented the 45th congressional district from 2019 to 2023, making history as the first Democrat elected to that seat, which includes significant areas of south-central Orange County, such as Irvine, Tustin, and parts of Anaheim and Laguna Niguel. In 2022, she successfully secured reelection in the newly drawn 47th district.
Porter is a graduate of both Yale University and Harvard Law School, and she has imparted her legal knowledge as a professor at various institutions, including the University of California, Irvine, William S. Boyd School of Law, and the University of Iowa. As the deputy chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, she has garnered widespread media attention for her incisive questioning during congressional hearings, showcasing her commitment to transparency and accountability in government.
In a strategic move for her political career, Porter has opted not to seek reelection for her House seat in 2024, instead setting her sights on the U.S. Senate race in California to succeed the retiring Dianne Feinstein. Her evolving political journey continues to resonate with her constituents and the broader electorate.
