Casey Jane Ellison
Casey Jane Ellison, born on March 29, 1988, is a versatile American stand-up comedian, writer, and multimedia artist known for her innovative approach to comedy and contemporary art. Raised in Los Angeles, California, just steps away from the iconic La Brea Tar Pits, she comes from a family with a strong commitment to social justice, as her mother is a civil rights attorney and her father works in finance. Ellison earned her degree in film, video, and animation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
She gained prominence through her engaging performances in web series such as Ovation’s Touching the Art, an all-female talk show that explores contemporary art, and VFILES’ What the F*shion and Status Update. A notable highlight of her career occurred in 2015 when she was selected as a Triennial artist by the New Museum in New York City, where she showcased episodes of Touching the Art and introduced her work "It’s So Important to Seem Wonderful, Part II," a continuation of a project first displayed at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
Ellison's creative output often blends humor with self-parody and self-objectification, including animated 3-D renderings of her stand-up performances exhibited in art venues. As a writer, she has contributed to notable publications like Vice Magazine, Gawker, Dazed, and GQ.
In 2008, she founded Aboveground Animation, a traveling showcase for animated works, and in 2015, she made Paper Magazine's "Beautiful People" list. In 2019, she co-hosted the podcast The Problem with Charles and Casey alongside Search Party co-creator Charles Rogers, featuring candid conversations with guests about their personal challenges.
