Andrée Lachapelle (November 13, 1931 – November 21, 2019) was a celebrated French Canadian actress whose career spanned several decades, leaving an indelible mark on the arts. Hailing from Montreal, she began her artistic journey at the age of 14, honing her craft at Studio XV under the guidance of Gérard Vleminckx. After briefly pursuing a career in education, teaching elementary school, she returned to her true passion—acting.

In 1952, Lachapelle's life took a significant turn when she met actor Robert Gadouas, with whom she collaborated on various performances. Together, they welcomed three children, but her life was forever altered by Gadouas's passing in 1969. Throughout her career, Lachapelle showcased her talent in iconic works by playwrights such as Michel Tremblay, Samuel Beckett, and Tennessee Williams. Her film credits include notable titles like Rope Around the Neck (La corde au cou), YUL 871, Léolo, and Don't Let the Angels Fall.

Her contributions to Canadian culture earned her prestigious accolades, including being appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1985 and becoming a Knight of the National Order of Quebec in 1997. Lachapelle's legacy continued posthumously, as she was awarded the Prix Iris for Best Actress at the 22nd Quebec Cinema Awards for her poignant role in And the Birds Rained Down (Il pleuvait des oiseaux). She passed away at the age of 88, choosing assisted suicide after a courageous battle with cancer.
