Amaka Okafor
Sally Amaka Okafor is a talented British actress recognized for her dynamic performances across theatre, film, and television. Born in Birmingham to a Nigerian reggae musician and an Indian journalist, Okafor's upbringing involved frequent relocations throughout the UK. She pursued her passion for the arts by studying theatre devising at Liverpool John Moores University.
Okafor commenced her acting journey by touring community theatre, performing in diverse venues including schools and prisons. Her professional stage debut in London's West End occurred in October 2019, where she played Sofia in Florian Zeller's acclaimed play, The Son, after its successful run at Kilburn's Kiln Theatre. She has also taken on significant roles at the National Theatre, appearing in productions such as Peter Pan (2016) and Macbeth (2018), as well as at the Royal Court Theatre.
Her television credits feature a notable performance as DI Deborah Barnes in the BBC series The Responder and a role in The Split (2020). Okafor's presence in the Netflix series Bodies, directed by Marco Kreuzpaintner, showcases her versatility and range.
In 2023, she gained further recognition for her role alongside Aisling Bea and Alice Lowe in Greatest Days, a film adaptation of Take That's musical The Band, which has been well-received by audiences. Okafor's filmography also includes the upcoming indie comedy drama Sweet Sue.
