Steve Diggle
Stephen E. Diggle, born on May 7, 1955, is a distinguished English musician renowned for his role as both guitarist and lead vocalist for the iconic punk band, Buzzcocks.
Diggle joined Buzzcocks in 1976 as a bassist, contributing to their seminal Spiral Scratch EP in 1977. When original lead singer Howard Devoto departed shortly after, Diggle transitioned to guitar, allowing Pete Shelley to take over vocal duties. This pivotal shift solidified Diggle's place in the band's classic lineup, where he played a vital role in the creation of their first three albums and the highly regarded compilation, Singles Going Steady, released in 1979.
After Buzzcocks disbanded in 1981, Diggle founded Flag of Convenience in 1982, a venture that lasted until 1989 when he reunited with Buzzcocks. Following the passing of Pete Shelley in 2018, Diggle stepped into the role of lead vocalist, furthering his legacy within the band. With the release of their album, Sonics in the Soul, in 2022, he became the sole member to have contributed to every album and EP in the band's discography. Additionally, Diggle has pursued a solo career, releasing four albums between 2000 and 2016, showcasing his versatility and enduring talent in the music industry.
