Barbara Butcher

Barbara Butcher is a distinguished American forensic scientist renowned for her extensive work as a death investigator in New York City. With a remarkable tenure spanning 22 years at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), she played a pivotal role in investigating over 5,500 death scenes, including more than 700 cases of homicide. Notably, she made history as the second woman hired as a Death Investigator in Manhattan and the first to maintain the position beyond three months.

A significant highlight of her career was her involvement in the recovery and identification of victims following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, underscoring her expertise in forensic science under the most challenging circumstances.
