Following her parents' divorce, María Esther attended a religious school until the age of 15. In the early 1960s, she leveraged her talent and charm to host her own television show, further establishing her presence in Europe. Her filmography includes *Operación Embajada* (1963) and *Black Story* (1971), and she appeared alongside Sophia Loren in *Madame Sans-Gene*, where she portrayed Carolina Bonaparte. The 1970s saw her act in notable works such as *El ojo del huracán* and *La mansión de la niebla*. In 1978, she starred in the controversial erotic film *Cartas de amor de una monja*, which garnered mixed reviews. After a cerebral infarction in 1999, she took a break from performing but made a triumphant return to the stage in an adaptation of Tennessee Williams' *Sweet Bird of Youth*.
