Maria Heiskanen
Maria Heiskanen, born in 1970 in Finland, is a distinguished actress known for her compelling performances across film, television, and theater. She gained significant recognition with her breakout role in Jan Troell's 1991 Swedish film *Il Capitano: A Swedish Requiem*, which earned her the Gold Plaque Award for Best Actress at the Chicago International Film Festival in 1992.
Heiskanen resided in Sweden from 1993 to 2003, during which she honed her craft in both film and theatrical productions. Notably, she took the stage at Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern and Riksteatern, where she portrayed Masja in Anton Chekhov's *The Seagull* in 2008, under the direction of Lars Norén.
Upon returning to Finland, Heiskanen collaborated with acclaimed director Aki Kaurismäki in *Lights in the Dusk* (2006) and showcased her talent in Aleksi Salmenperä's *A Man's Work* (2007), earning Jussi Award nominations for both performances.
In 2008, she starred in the lead role of Jan Troell's *Everlasting Moments*, a performance that garnered her the Guldbagge Award for Best Actress and the Best Actress Award at the Valladolid International Film Festival. The film was not only awarded the Guldbagge Award for Best Film but also received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 66th Golden Globe Awards, and was shortlisted for the same category at the 81st Academy Awards.
