Tony Pua

Tony Pua Kiam Wee (潘俭伟; born August 1, 1972) is a prominent Malaysian politician and investor known for his influential role within the Democratic Action Party (DAP). He represented the constituency of Damansara as a Member of Parliament (MP) from May 2018 until November 2022, prior to which he served Petaling Jaya Utara from March 2008 to May 2018. His commitment to public service extended to his position as Political Secretary to the Minister of Finance from May 2018 to February 2020. Pua has been an active member of the Pakatan Harapan coalition and is currently the Policy Advisor to the DAP Secretary-General, a role he has held since May 2022.

Before entering politics, Pua was the CEO of Cyber Village Sdn Bhd, a company listed on the SESDAQ board of the Singapore Exchange. He left the corporate sector in early 2007 to pursue a political career, joining the DAP in 2008.

Pua's academic credentials include a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Keble College, Oxford, which he obtained through a scholarship from the MTC Foundation in 1994. Earlier, he received prestigious scholarships for his O- and A-Levels at Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College in Singapore.

In the 2008 Malaysian general election, Pua secured his first parliamentary victory against incumbent Chew Mei Fun. He further solidified his political career in the 2018 election, achieving a historic majority of 106,903 votes, the largest margin ever recorded in Malaysian electoral history.
