Malcolm Mitchell Young (January 6, 1953 – November 18, 2017) was a prominent Australian musician and songwriter, best recognized as the co-founder and rhythm guitarist of the legendary rock band AC/DC. Young's journey with the band began in 1973, and he remained an integral part of the group, apart from a brief hiatus in 1988, until his retirement in 2014 due to health complications.

While his younger brother Angus often took the spotlight, Malcolm was regarded as the backbone and visionary of AC/DC, steering the band's creative direction. His contributions were vital to the development of their iconic sound, as he crafted many of the band’s signature guitar riffs and collaborated closely with Angus on songwriting. In recognition of their influence on rock music, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

In 2014, Malcolm stepped away from performing to address his battle with dementia. Later that year, the band confirmed his permanent retirement, but he expressed unwavering support for AC/DC's future musical endeavors. Sadly, Malcolm Young passed away on November 18, 2017, due to complications from dementia, leaving behind a legacy as a foundational figure in rock music and a lasting impact on generations of musicians.
