Mariam Al Ferjani
Mariam Al Ferjani, originally from Tunisia, was pursuing a medical degree when a chance meeting with filmmaker Leyla Bouzid changed the course of her life. She opted to leave her medical studies behind to enroll in directing and acting courses at the Civica Scuola di Cinema Luchino Visconti in Milan, where her father was residing at the time. During her breaks from school, Mariam returned to Tunisia to both direct and act in her experimental short films, including THE CLAIM and WINTRY. In addition to her work in cinema, she has been cultivating a following for her striking photographic self-portraits.
After completing her studies in 2015, Mariam has split her time between Tunis and Milan, contributing to various creative projects. She gained recognition for her performance in Kaouther Ben Hania’s critically acclaimed film BEAUTY AND THE DOGS, released in 2017, where she took on the lead role. Currently, in Milan, Mariam is focused on writing her debut feature film titled ALYAH, marking an exciting new chapter in her career as she continues to explore storytelling through both acting and directing.
