Andrew Clement Serkis, born on April 20, 1964, is a prominent English actor and filmmaker renowned for his innovative work in motion capture. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of iconic characters such as Gollum in Peter Jackson's epic adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-2003) and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012). His impressive repertoire also features King Kong in the 2005 remake, Caesar in the acclaimed Planet of the Apes reboot series (2011-2017), and Baloo in his own directorial project, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018). Additionally, he brought to life Supreme Leader Snoke in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Kino Loy in the Disney+ series Andor (2022).

Serkis's contributions to film have garnered critical acclaim, earning him an Empire Award and two Saturn Awards for his motion capture performances. He was nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for his chilling portrayal of serial killer Ian Brady in Longford (2006), as well as a BAFTA nomination for his role as Ian Dury in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010). In 2020, he received the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema and won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2021 for The Letter for the King (2020).

Furthermore, Serkis has ventured into directing, making his debut with the Imaginarium’s Breathe (2017) and helming Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021).
