Sid Watkins

Professor Sid Watkins (September 6, 1928 – September 12, 2012) was a distinguished British neurosurgeon and a transformative figure in the realm of Formula 1, recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to driver safety. Hailing from Liverpool, England, Watkins honed his skills as a neurosurgeon, becoming a leading authority in his medical specialty. His pivotal role in Formula 1 began in 1978 when he was appointed Chief Medical Officer, a position from which he initiated vital safety reforms.
